Success is Happiness and Happiness is Success

What does success look like to you? Notice I asked what it looks like to “you” not others. So many times we define success by the standards of others. If you keeping chasing other people’s ideas of success you will never reach it and you will never be happy.

Take a look at your life; What have you accomplished thus far? What  do you still want to accomplish? What steps can you take to help you reach those goals? What makes you happy? What makes you feel fulfilled? I want you to really think about this and how you can start moving your life into the direction you desire. Leave the excuses at the door. Many of us as soon as we start thinking about what we would love to do we instantly start listing reasons why we cannot accomplish those things. Excuses allow us to settle. They are crutches that we use to say that we don’t have the knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve the task at hand. When in fact  the opposite is true. We were all given special talents and gifts that are in alignment with what truly makes us happy. We all have inside us the very things we need to be happy and successful we just have to unlock them and allow them to show us the way. The good thing about excuses are they are self imposed. Only you hold yourself back, only you set limitations on what you can accomplish. So stop holding yourself back and start living the life you were meant to live. Seek pride in your accomplishments and use them as fuel to achieve new goals. Leave the failures in the past and only pay attention to the lessons that were learned.

When we were children, we believed we could be anything. I have a friend, when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she stated with great pride “Santa Claus”. At what point in our lives did we stop believing that we could and be anything we wanted to? Was it when people started telling us what we could and could not accomplish? Was it when people assigned roles for us to follow? Was it when we didn’t see a role model to follow?  I don’t have the answer to this but I do know that what was once alive within us can be brought back to life with a few easy steps:

  1. Stop telling yourself no

  2. Stop telling yourself that you are not good enough, smart enough, etc.

  3. Stop telling yourself that you don’t have what it takes to reach your level of success

  4. Start listening to that quiet voice inside you that is telling you where your happiness lives

  5. Stop  telling yourself that you don’t deserve happiness

  6. Start doing things that make YOU happy

  7. Start living for YOU

  8. If you don’t see a path, create one

  9. Be your own role model

  10. Most importantly, BE YOU

I believe that success is happiness and happiness is success. I never met anyone who was happy that thought they were a failure. People who are happy have discovered what makes them happy and in turn they are successful at it. Happiness is like the oxygen mask on an airplane, first make sure you are happy and then you will be able to share that happiness with those around you. When you are happy happiness will surround you. We attract what we need, what we want and what we believe we deserve. Put all of your thoughts, beliefs and ideas into a positive direction for yourself. Love yourself, know that you are worth it and know that you have what it takes to be anything that you want.
